Kevin Mench had 4 hits at Abner Field as the Auburn Doubledays beat the New
York Subway Series 12 to 3.
 
Mench enjoyed a fine day at the plate.  He doubled in the 3rd inning, slapped
a single in the 4th inning, banged out a one-base hit bringing in a run in
the 6th inning and brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand
Slammer (his 10th of the season) in the 7th inning.  Auburn bats were very
productive in the 3rd inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 6 hits and the
7th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits.  Auburn had 21 hits
overall, while New York had 8.  
 
Mike Maroth(5-5) went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory.
Runelvys Hernandez(0-4) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed Auburn 7 runs in
2 and 2/3 innings of work.  
 
'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Mench said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not
do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by game,
and pitch by pitch.'
